Our latest project, a pair of custom-made curved display cabinets exemplifies this thinking, created for the prestigious Berkeley Hotel, seeking the highest standards of craftsmanship and finish.
Crafted in solid walnut and hand-finished with a durable clear lacquer, these bespoke curved cabinets showcase the Somerville commitment to traditional craftsmanship with a modern edge. The design incorporates precision-curved glass panels, seamlessly integrated into the framework, a true test of skill and accuracy.
The beauty and warmth of the walnut is complemented by different fabric panels. We used fabric-backed vinyl in a sophisticated blue tone across the lower doors and internally, the panels are finished using Phillip Jeffries’ Boucle Strings in Meadow Green, creating a subtle yet luxurious contrast. Ambient internal lighting highlights the carefully chosen materials and enhances the cabinet’s visual appeal.

Elegantly designed, these units are also functional with security and mobility in mind. The cabinets house high-value items and are both lockable and alarm-integrated, ensuring their contents always remain protected. Given their prominent location within a busy hotel environment, they were engineered to be movable. They are fitted with concealed extension slides at the top, allowing them to be retracted for cleaning and maintenance without the need for being disconnected.
This discreet solution means the display units maintain their visual integrity while offering practicality for daily hotel operations.
