Every working day in the UK, two construction workers take their own life, and that stress, anxiety, and depression accounts for a fifth of all work-related illness. In light of this statistic, Somerville Fit-Out has pledged to become a Company Supporter for the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. This is a charity dedicated to providing emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support for construction workers and their families.
A crucial element of the charity’s strategy is to provide a wide range of free and widely available pro-active resources to support the industry. The charity offers a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and text HARDHAT service which provides a range of information, guidance and support on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by their free Self Support App which offers another route to support, along with their Lighthouse Beacons who provide a safe space for people to share concerns.
The Somerville teams will work and engage with the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and being able to utilise their services, including:
Delivering essential support and early intervention during demanding situations, preventing future and long-term emotional health issues
The academy embraces every style of learning from self-paced e-learning through to online tutor-led masterclasses and onsite training
Site visits can be arranged from the MakeItVisible team of Wellbeing Ambassadors, and get the conversations moving while offering signposts to support
Emotional Well-Being: Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Sleep, Suicidal Thoughts
Physical Well-Being: Occupational Health, Aches & Pains Nutrition, Weight Management, Cancer Support, Alcohol & Drug Addiction
Financial Well-being: Emergency Financial Aid, State Benefit Entitlement, Debt Management, Tax, CIC and Legal Advice, Retirement Planning
