Mental Health Awareness Week this year is 13th – 19th May. It is organised by the Mental Health Foundation, who aim to spread awareness and understanding around mental health.

Today marked the final day of Mental Health Awareness Week and we wanted to remind all of our staff about the partnership we have with Mates in Mind. This is a registered charity that provides a framework to raise awareness, address the stigma of poor mental health and improve positive mental well being within the workplace.

Evidence suggests there are 5 steps we can all take to improve our mental well being.

Connect – connect with people around you, family friend, work colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing these relationships.

Be active – go out for a walk, a cycle, play outdoor games…its doesn’t have to be about the gym! Make this part of your daily routine.

Keep learning – new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new type of confidence, explore doing something you’ve always wanted to try!

Give to others – even a small act of kindness such as a smile, a thank you, asking how someone is. This can make a positive impact on someone else.

Be mindful – be aware of the present moment, your thoughts and feeling, your body and world around you. It can change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.

Throughout the day, we spent time chatting about these simple steps we can all take to encourage positive well being into our daily lives.
